Next week I’ll be on vacation, but the SC updates will keep flowin’! We’ve got a guest strip from Benzie Johnson of Passing Period lined up for Tuesday, but we’re still accepting guest strips. If you’d like to do a guest strip, please send it to Jackson at thesketchy. Please keep ’em 900px wide or less, and suitable for ages 10 and up.

CALLBACKS: Buy Guys
In case you didn’t see the announcement yesterday: RedditMeet has commissioned a comic from me! Check out their site to see the comic–and to see what manner of Reddit-related coolness they’re up to.
The comic features Howard.
P.S. Special thanks to David Cody Cook, AKA the DCC, for helping me brainstorm up some uses of shyguys.
Today I bring you not only an extra comic featuring Howard, but also a new way to network socially. You may check them both out at Redditmeet.com.
What is RedditMeet? The brainchild of Robert Gryfft (yes, that Robert Gryfft) and Nelson Blaha, RedditMeet is a new app for finding people near you with similar interests. By signing up and providing your Reddit username and location, you can find other nearby Redditors with a score based on the subreddit subscriptions you have in common. The information you provide is kept confidential and only shared with other RedditMeet users. It’s pretty sweet, and moreover, they commissioned me to make a comic for them! It contains wizards.
If you’re a regular Reddit user, RedditMeet can be a cool new way to meet like-minded people. Head over to RedditMeet.com and check it out!
CALLBACKS: Drive By
The 2012 Pinhook Slalom Open is tomorrow! I will be there drawing comics and selling shirts and watching people skateboard. Perhaps you, too, will be there; only time will tell.
Personally, if Waluigi ever got his own game, I would totally play it. That or the Koopalings. On a related note, Gamervision has a list of the Ten Reasons Waluigi is Awesome; fair warning, the last one is a bit off-color, but it’s still a pretty hilarious list on the whole.
Also, the call for guest strips is still open! If you’re interested, please send your guest strip to Jackson at thesketchy by 6/28; keep ’em 900px wide or less, and suitable for ages 10 and up.
If you’ve been around SC for any length of time, you’re probably familiar with my fellow cartoonist Brian Russell. I wanted to let you know about his latest book project, What I Remember About Dinosaurs.
In the past few decades, we’ve seen large changes in our understanding of dinosaurs. We’ve seen closer and closer links of dinosaurs to birds (to the point where some scientists conjecture that T-Rex had feathers); we’ve seen a host of Jurassic Park movies; we’ve seen that brontosaurus never existed. What I Remember About Dinosaurs is a personal retrospective on what we knew about dinosaurs and what we know now. It’s a sort of dialogue between Brian Russell twenty years ago and the modern-day Brian who still keeps his inner child alive, and who loves dinosaurs.
And it doesn’t exist yet.
So, Brian is looking for people to help him make his book exist. To that end, he’s running a Kickstarter campaign to raise the funds to publish it. By backing the project monetarily, you can earn yourself various rewards, including a digital and/or hard copy of the book itself. If you’re interested, you can find out more at the project’s Kickstarter page. Give it a look, check out the introduction video, and if you’d like to help make What I Remember About Dinosaurs a reality, pledge your support!
Intellectual property is intellectual theft! Okay, not really.
I’ve been invited to exhibit at Envision Skate Collective’s upcoming slalom race for charity! If you’ll be at the race, stop by my table and say hey; after all, nothing goes together quite like skateboarding and webcomics.
If you’re planning on competing in Envision Skate’s upcoming slalom event, just a reminder that tomorrow (6/13) is the last day to register. The blue button to the left will take you to the registration page, or you can find out more at the Envision website.
Also, I’d like to remind you that I’ve been invited to exhibit at the race! If you’ll be at the race, stop by my table and say hey. If you’re there primarily for the skateboarding rather than the exhibiting internet cartoonist, I could probably learn a thing or two from you. Almost all of my skateboarding knowledge comes from playing the snot out of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater in high school.
Sweet news, sports fans: Envision Skate Collective has invited me to set up an exhibitor’s table at the slalom! From 10AM on Saturday 6/23 until the end of the event, I’ll be there drawing commissions, selling t-shirts and original artwork and watching the race. I’ll have more information next week on what shirts will be available, but you can bet the classic Descartes ‘iThink’ design will be in the lineup.
Also, as noted earlier, I’ll be running guest comics during the first week of July while I’m on vacation. If you’d like to do a guest strip for me, please send it to Jackson at thesketchy. Please keep ’em 900px wide or less, and suitable for ages 10 and up.
