CALLBACKS: Hot Times

The above is a recently commissioned piece of artwork for Peter Metzger, who asked me to draw him a tray of our finest meats and cheeses. Actually mailing it to him was an adventure in itself; first, I accidentally mailed him an empty envelope, then the next day remembered the commission, but forgot the envelope to mail it in. Third time’s the charm, as they say. Peter is now in possession of his drawing of a tray of our finest meats and cheeses, and all is well.
Are you interested in commissioning some artwork from me? Shoot me an email (Jackson at thesketchy dot com) and let me know what you’ve got in mind!
Did you know Wes Molebash is launching a new webcomic?
It’s called Insert Image, and it launches August 6. It stars JP and Miles, the creative team at Paper City Church (pictured above), who spend their workdays drinking coffee and commenting on pop culture and church culture. I know from his past strips You’ll Have That and Max vs. Max that Wes is a master of relatable and down-to-earth geek humor. Just from the teaser poster and introductory information on the site, it looks like it’s gonna be a lot of fun.
So I’m excited about that. I’m also excited to be back from vacation with more comics to share with you. I’ll have a new SC strip up on Friday, and then tune in next week for Big O Parody Week. That’s right: I’ll be hitting you with new hand-drawn comics every day next week, spoofing everyone’s favorite film noir mecha anime from 1999.
It’s a good time to be liking webcomics.
I had originally intended for this comic to be animated, but the filesize rapidly became unwieldy, among other issues. We hope you’ve enjoyed Susan’s introduction!
On Tuesday we will return to Sketch Comedy as normal, whatever that means.
UPDATE: At Dwight’s request, there is now a full-color Susan desktop available for download on the Extras page!
Matt Rizkallah is back with more fancomics! The first fancomic posted above is old; it was originally displayed on the Facebook page. Matt has a blog, Bloggy Bloggerville, where he shares his short stories, thoughts on God, and favorite music. It is a pretty cool place.
(For the curious among you, the original fancomic by Matt Rizkallah is here.)
Check it out, it’s a semi-realistic Independent Music James! I plan to make more of these for the Subscribers’ Edition over the next couple of weeks. The Subscribers’ Edition also gives you access to Joe Harris’ color Sketch Comedy strips, exclusive extra strips, and other bonus content.
Check out this sweet Fan Comic that SC reader Matt Rizkallah assembled from 100% post-consumer comic strips! I like how in panel 3 I am suddenly sitting on a stool.
