The Total Quarterback Rating Explained

CALLBACKS: The Total Quarterback Rating, An Excuse to Draw a Hot Air Balloon, Reader Mailbag: Bishop Berkeley

This comic features Dwight Knoll of DwightK.com! The “K” is not silent. It also features Rene Descartes, of philosophy, and algebra.

Okay, I promise that’s the last of the football comics. At least until the actual season starts.

  1. Don’ worry man I’m still with ya, but I just can’t understand WHY put so much thinking into stuff like sport statistics… really. Sorry I just can’t get over that. :p

    1. Well, gaboris, the reason that I personally put so much thought into these sports statistics is because they are extremely silly, and therefore ripe for parody. 😉

      1. No sorry I didn’ meant you. Strips like these DEMAND great thinking, but… sport statistics? Aren’t there people starving to death in the world or somethin? O_o”

  2. I got to the third panel by ignoring the second. I don’t even pay attention to football in my country, let alone yours.

    1. Thanks for letting me know, Maarvarq. I’d been having some trouble with the backend on Friday, but I’ve been in Chicago all weekend and haven’t had a chance to fix it. I should be able to fix the problem this evening.

It appears the RSS feed is still borked, though. (In other news, I am hating le WordPress.)

  4. Let it be known that I think many people will think this is an objective statistic when it is clearly subjective. Both in the assignment of points and in ESPN using only 3 years worth of games to determine their game-state data (I read). Even if every game state occurred in 3 years (doubtful) what are the chances that every game state occurred enough times to get an accurate idea of the scoring chances for that play?

    1. I definitely agree about its subjectivity. I actually wrote a third strip about it because when I said that I was done with football comics I was lying. I’ll get into the subjectivity issue a bit more with that.
