And yet Anno gets a pass.
Of course he does! He’s Anno!
Seriously, though, I’m aware that Evangelion has its warts, but it was a groundbreaking and innovating work–and on top of that, it was actually good. Its cast was relatably broken, and it turned the mecha genre on its head by showing what these experiences would actually do to a teenage psyche.
…and as for You Can (Not) Reboot, I’d say let’s see where it goes before we pass judgment.
Except James forgets YouTube!
The problems inherent in YouTube run much deeper than just bad anime.
And then he’s going to blame Netflix…
I’ve got no qualms with Netflix. They’ve taken commercial video distribution into the 21st century, and as far as I’m concerned, it’s been nothing but an improvement. It’s almost enough to convince me to get the internet at my apartment.
…Except that 90% of all media is still crap. But you can’t blame the distributors for that.
James, if you are capable of consuming > 10% of all teh media, I’ll give you a shiny nickel…
If you don’t have internet, how are you writing these comments, then?
@Dwight: It’s Sturgeon’s Revelation–it’s not meant to be an absolute statistical law. And if you’re going for a “like anyone can even know that, Napoleon” argument, then how come the crappiness of media is such a widely agreed-upon constant? If anything, the democratization of content creation through the internet has all but demonstrated it conclusively. You’ve seen YouTube comments.
@Michael: With my psychic powers, obviously.
Psychic powers? Sadly, Howard and I haven’t perfected those yet.
I don’t understand a word you just said
Neither does my mom!
Agreed. I am wholly ignorant of teh anime.
